Scoot, the low-cost subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, recently added nine Embraer E190-E2 aircraft to its fleet to support the airline’s growth throughout the region. Embraer says the E190-E2 is the quietest, most efficient aircraft with fewer than 150 seats; the airplanes will arrive at Scoot in 2024.
“The agreement to include nine new E190-E2 aircraft in our fleet allows us to continue operating a modern and fuel-efficient fleet and support our network growth strategy by serving thinner routes to non-metro destinations out of Singapore,” says Scoot CEO Leslie Thng. “As the first Singaporean carrier to operate the E2s, we are excited to be working with our partners at Embraer to improve our network connectivity and increase travel options for our customers.”
Profit Hunters
The E190-E2 is part of Embraer’s E-Jets E2 “Profit Hunter” line of commercial jets, which have been in service since 2018. These jets are a favorite of major airlines around the world, including KLM, Royal Jordanian, and many others. The E-Jets E2 family has a unique wing design, new technologies, and aerodynamics to lower carbon emissions by 25% as well as decrease fuel burn compared to the previous generation of E-Jets. The E190-E2 builds off the 20 million hours of experience from the first generation and has a range of 2,850 nautical miles (5,278 kilometers). The aircraft has a seat capacity ranging from 97 to 106, depending on class configuration.
“We welcome Scoot as the region’s first major operator of the E2,” says Embraer Commercial Aviation CEO Arjan Meijer. “The team at our APAC headquarters in Singapore is proud to support the airline in its quest to enhance connectivity and growth in the region, supporting the further development of its Singapore hub. This is the value the E2 brings to airlines—complementing larger narrowbodies to grow and maintain networks. Passengers will enjoy the unique comfort of Embraer’s signature two by two seat configuration and modern interior. Work is already underway to prepare for the aircraft’s entry into service.”
