The European market got its first taste of the super-midsized Bombardier Challenger 3500 business jet this week, as the award-winning aircraft made its debut in the market at the European Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition (Ebace) running through May 25th in Geneva, Switzerland. The 10-passenger jet, which entered service in September 2022, is appearing at the event alongside Bombardier’s 19-passenger Global 7500 and a certified pre-owned Challenger 605 also making its debut.

Many Superlatives

Bombardier introduced the Challenger 3500 in 2021 as an evolution of its Challenger 350. It says the aircraft not only has the widest cabin in its class at 6 feet high by 7.2 ft wide by 25.2 ft long (1.8 by 2.2 by 7.7 meters) but also the quietest thanks to its advanced sound-insulating design. Passengers also travel at one of the lowest cabin altitudes in its class at 4,850 ft (1,478 m) at 41,000 ft (12,500 m).

There’s more. The Challenger 3500 is also the most sustainably designed business jet in its class, Bombardier claims. Along with the Global 5500, 6500, and 7500, the aircraft is the industry’s only business jet with an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), which documents the plane’s environmental footprint over its lifecycle. Customers can also outfit the cabin with a selection of environmentally friendly materials, and flight crews can use business aviation’s first eco app to optimize flight plans, saving fuel and lowering C02 emissions.

Powered by Honeywell HTF7350 turbofans, the Challenger 3500 has a maximum flight range of 3,400 nautical miles (6,297 kilometers), a top speed of Mach 0.83, and a high-speed cruise of Mach 0.82.

“Top Of The Line”

Earlier this month, Bombardier announced a collaboration with Collins Aerospace to equip the 3500 with Iridium Certus connectivity as a baseline feature, thus providing “highly reliable connectivity service with pole-to-pole coverage.” This joins other features like the industry’s first voice-controlled cabin, allowing for adjusting lighting, temperature, and entertainment systems, and the industry’s first to make wireless chargers available throughout the cabin and the only one with 24-inch, 4K displays. The aircraft’s patented Nuage seat, meanwhile, provides zero-gravity positioning and represents the first new seat architecture in business aviation in more than 30 years, Bombardier says.

“European customers will be able to feel for themselves the high quality that is standard for our aircraft—such as in experiencing Bombardier’s illustrious Nuage seat—all while finding unique design options that are genuinely more sustainable,’’ says Jean-Christopher Gallagher, Bombardier executive vice president of aircraft sales and Bombardier Defense. “We are very proud to open the door of the Challenger 3500 aircraft to our European customers for the very first time. This top-of-the-line aircraft demonstrates that exceptional comfort, ultimate performance, and lower environmental footprint can go hand in hand."
