At the recent Aero Friedrichshafen exhibition in Friedrichshafen, Germany, Daher displayed a private European owner’s TBM 960 with Daher’s new Sirocco paint scheme. This marked the first appearance of the TBM 960 at any European air show.

Daher has delivered nearly 1,140 TBM single-engine turboprop airplanes worldwide, but only about 20% of all TBM deliveries have been to European customers. Looking at the TBM 960 specifically, Daher has delivered 60 total, with most going to North American customers.

“The TBM 960 has surpassed all previous sales records, confirming the capabilities of digital power for this latest high-end member of our TBM 900-series aircraft family,” says Nicolas Chabbert, senior vice president of Daher’s aircraft division. “Owners and operators give high marks for its superior piloting experience, high level of safety, and increased cabin comfort, as well as the enhanced efficiency and sustainability.”

The 2023 Model

For 2023, Daher updated the software of the TBM 960’s touchscreen-controlled Garmin G3000 flight deck. It also added a control yoke activation button for the Garmin Electronic Checklists and repositioned the altimeter setting button. The flight deck grants access to numerous e-copilot functions, including the HomeSafe emergency auto-landing system and Electronic Stability and Protection (ESP) and Under-speed Protection (USP) systems.

The plane also boasts an efficiency-enhancing, dual-channel digital Engine and Propeller Electronic Control System (EPECS) that offers benefits like automated engine startup, optimized engine performance, reduced pilot workload, and enhanced engine life. EPECS is linked to the plane’s Pratt & Whitney PT6E-66XT engine and five-blade Hartzell propeller, which features a lightweight Raptor hub. The propeller is designed to reduce overall weight and enhance takeoff distance, climb, and cruise speed and helps limit airplane noise and vibration. Daher says when travelling at the recommended cruise speed of 308 ktas, fuel consumption is only 57 gallons (216 liters) per hour, a 10% improvement in fuel economy compared to flying at the maximum cruise setting.
