Gulfstream Aerospace’s upcoming flagship G700 and the G600 it introduced in 2019 each recently set two new city pair speed records while flying from the United States to Riyadh and from Riyadh back to the United States. All record-setting flights took place in October and involved the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Expected for delivery in 2022, the G700 has previously set three city pair speed records. The G600 has set more than 20 since it was introduced in 2014. Gulfstream flew the aircraft to Saudi Arabia to showcase to customers and potential buyers in the region.

There & Back Again

A fully outfitted production test aircraft set both of the G700 records. The first occurred October 23; the G700 flew 7,172 nautical miles (13,282 kilometers) from Houston to Riyadh at Mach 0.87 in 13 hours and 40 minutes. The flight was the G700’s longest thus far. The second record occurred October 29 while returning from Riyadh to Savannah, Georgia, where Gulfstream’s headquarters are located. That flight covered 6,507 nm (12,050 km) at an average speed of Mach 0.875. During the flight, the G700 flew as high as 51,000 feet (15,545 meters) at Mach 0.89.

The first of the G600’s recent records also took place October 23 and was recorded using an SAF blend. The jet flew 6,146 nm (11,382 km) from Washington, D.C., to Riyadh at Mach 0.88 in 11 hours and 39 minutes. The second record occurred while flying 5,915 nm (10,955 km) in 12 hours and 56 minutes from Riyadh to Teterboro Airport in New Jersey at an average speed of Mach 0.85.

The G600 & G700

The award-winning G600 can seat up to 19 passengers and is equipped with twin Pratt & Whitney PW815GA engines, which Gulfstream has stated generate 27% lower nitrogen oxide emissions than current international requirements. The G600 has a 6,600-nm (12,223-km) flight range at Mach 0.85 and a 5,600-nm (10,371-km) range at Mach 0.90. The aircraft’s maximum operating speed is Mach 0.925.

The G700 uses all-new Rolls-Royce Pearl 700 engines, and boasts what Gulfstream says is the industry’s most spacious, innovative, and flexible cabin. The cabin seats up to 19 passengers, sleeps up to 13, and features up to five living areas. The G700 has a 7,500-nm (13,890-km) flight range, a maximum speed of Mach 0.925, a Mach 0.90 high-speed cruise speed, and a long-range cruise speed of Mach 0.85.
