Textron Aviation has selected SoCal Pilot Center, Mike Smith Aviation, Louisville Aviation, and Lanier Flight Center to participate in its Top Hawk 2021 pilot training program. Each will receive a factory-new, custom-branded Cessna Skyhawk to use throughout the program for student pilot training and for promotional and recruitment purposes. Textron Aviation says the Skyhawk is the most popular single-engine aircraft ever built and calls it “the world standard for pilot training.”

The “Optimal Platform”

The Top Hawk program promotes general aviation and encourages young people to enter aviation as a career. Textron Aviation has provided 26 Skyhawks to flight schools participating in Top Hawk and Cessna Pilot Centers in the last six years and says more than 1,000 students have received training as a result. Those interested in learning about Top Hawk or applying to participate are encouraged to contact Textron Aviation for more information.

Textron Aviation has delivered in excess of 45,000 Skyhawks, it says, noting that more Skyhawks have been delivered to customers worldwide than any other type of aircraft. The four-occupant piston aircraft’s features include a glass cockpit equipped with a Garmin G1000 NXi avionics system and a standard angle-of-attack display system. The plane is powered by a 180-horsepower (134-kilowatt) Lycoming engine and has a 640-nautical-mile (1,185-kilometer) flight range. Textron says the Skyhawk’s high-wing design provides improved visibility and greater ground clearance, making it an optimal platform for student pilots.
