Bombardier said this week that share purchase agreements with MRO (maintenance, repair, and overhaul) provider Lufthansa Technik and ExecuJet Aviation Group will lead to establishing a Bombardier wholly owned service center in Berlin, Germany, thus further expanding its global customer support footprint. Expected to close before year’s end, the agreements will see Bombardier acquiring all issued and outstanding shares of Lufthansa Bombardier Aviation Services that it doesn’t currently own.

Bombardier Customers To Benefit

“Bombardier has had a strong presence in Germany for many years, and we are proud that these significant transactions will continue to grow our presence in Europe as we work towards establishing a wholly-owned Bombardier service centre in Berlin,” says Jean-Christophe Gallagher, vice president and general manager, customer experience, Bombardier Aviation. “This investment is critical to the expansion of our service footprint in Europe and around the world, and as the service centre is set to become a wholly-owned Bombardier service centre, our customers will benefit from even more advantages and expertise offered by the OEM.”

The Berlin center is located at Berlin Schönefeld Airport, and has provided MRO services to Bombardier business aircraft customers since 1997. It features more than 160,000 square feet (15,000 square meters) of service capacity, and 240 on-site employees providing support for Learjet, Challenger, and Global business aircraft operating in Europe, Russia, Africa, and the Middle East. Bombardier says the center has been named the best authorized service facility in Europe several times, and was the first European-based center to perform maintenance on its Global 7500 jet.

Bombardier has also recently announced investments in new and existing service centers in Miami, London, Singapore, and elsewhere.
