Despite international concerns about the coronavirus outbreak in nearby China, the 2020 Singapore Airshow set for February 11 to 16 at Singapore’s Changi Exhibition Centre will proceed, and French aerospace company Dassault Aviation will be there with its flagship ultra-long-range Falcon 8X tri-jet business jet. Dassault will also display its Falcon 2000LXS and a full-scale cabin mock-up of its upcoming ultra-wide-body twin-jet Falcon 6X, which will first fly this year and begin deliveries in 2022.

The Asia Pacific Region

The Singapore Airshow is billed as Asia’s largest aerospace and defense event. While Reuters reports that numerous Chinese aviation companies and such jet makers as Bombardier, Textron, and Gulfstream brand owner General Dynamics have decided not to attend, Boeing, Airbus, Lockheed Martin, and others will be present.

Dassault anticipates the region will be major market for its Falcon 6X, which is making its first appearance in the region. The aircraft includes what Dassault says is the largest cabin cross-section of any purpose-built business jet. Eric Trappier, company chairman and CEO, notes, “The region has always been a key market for Falcon aircraft, whose efficiency, cabin comfort, and safety level are important criteria for local operators.” Dassault says 100-plus Falcons are based in the region, with half being late-generation models.

Dassault delivered its first Falcon 8X to the Asia Pacific region three years ago. With its 6,450-nautical-mile (11,945-kilometer) range, it can fly nonstop from Hong Kong to London, Singapore to Zurich, or Beijing to New York and land at restricted airports usually inaccessible to large business jets. The Falcon 2000LXS, meanwhile, has a 4,000-nautical mile (7,410-kilometer) range—good enough to fly nonstop from Singapore to Sydney or Singapore to Dubai—and is popular with the region’s corporate customers, Dassault says.
