Airbus, a leading manufacturer of corporate jets, commercial passenger aircraft, and helicopters, recently announced plans to resume partial production and assembly work at Airbus facilities in France and Spain this week. The move comes after following stringent measures to enlist health and safety checks related to the COVID-19 crisis. Airbus halted production and assembly work for four days to conduct “extensive work” coordinated with social partners to ensure employee health and safety.

Health & Safety

Airbus says it will only restart its work stations if they comply with new health and safety measures implemented concerning hygiene, cleaning, and self-distancing. Simultaneously, it’s enhancing operational efficiency under the new working conditions. Airbus is also enacting the same measures at other sites but without full interruption, as well as enlisting home-working when possible for nonproduction tasks. The company previously reopened its Final Assembly Line in Tianjin, China, in February after temporarily stopping production due to the coronavirus outbreak.

In Europe, Airbus aircraft, satellites, and services are helping various organizations execute critical missions, and Airbus has donated thousands of masks throughout Europe. Further, an Airbus A330-800 recently helped transport roughly 2 million masks from China to Europe.

Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury saluted Airbus employees for their commitment to “ensure continuity in close cooperation with our social partners and other stakeholders.” Airbus, he says, is working to “live up to our values, humbled by the complexity of the situation, and contribute as much as we can to society in these very difficult times.”
