Piper Aircraft introduced its new single-engine turboprop M600 SLS variant back in October for late-2019 availability. The M600 SLS (Safety, Luxury, Support) notably includes the new HALO Safety System, which is part of the Garmin G3000 avionics suite and includes Garmin Autoland digital technology. The latter enables the plane to land safely at the nearest suitable airport if the pilot becomes incapacitated. In early February, Piper embarked on a demonstration tour across the United States to showcase the plane and the safety technology.

Iowa & Beyond

Piper launched the tour at its headquarters in Vero Beach, Florida, with the first stop set for the Des Moines Flying Service in Iowa. Other stops are scheduled at each of Piper’s U.S. dealer headquarters, and within each dealer’s regional territory. This includes appearances in California, Kansas, and Texas, as well as in the United States’ Northwest, Southwest, Mid-Atlantic, Pacific Northwest, and Southeast regions. Each stop will feature static displays and demonstration flights.

Ron Gunnarson, Piper vice president of sales, marketing, and customer support, says the HALO System with Garmin Autoland greatly enhances the M600 SLS’ situational awareness and safety. As such, he says Piper “felt compelled” to let would-be customers witness the system and Autoland firsthand while also learning about the M600 SLS’ new standard EXP luxury interior features and service and support package. Piper has said the M600 SLS will be the world’s first general-aviation aircraft certified for Autoland functionality within HALO, which also includes a host of other technologies.
