In mid-September, the Luftwaffe received the first of three planned orders for Bombardier Global 6000 business jets. A longtime Bombardier aircraft operator, Germany’s air force is to receive the other two Global 6000s later this year. Bombardier’s Specialized Aircraft division customized the aircraft, which the Luftwaffe will use to carry out political and parliamentary transport missions.
German-Made Engines
Bombardier’s Specialized Aircraft division has entered 500-plus specialized aircraft into service overall. The company’s Learjet, Challenger, and Global business jet platforms provide solutions for surveillance, reconnaissance, medical evacuation, and VIP transport applications. Bombardier says its Specialized Aircraft products provide “excellent dispatch reliability, speed, agility, endurance, and optimized operating costs.”
The Global 6000 is powered by twin Rolls-Royce BR710 engines designed and manufactured by Rolls-Royce Deutschland in Dahlewitz, Germany. The jet provides a 6,000-nautical-mile (11,112-kilometer) range, a top speed of Mach 0.89, and a maximum operating altitude of 51,000 feet (15,545 meters). Bombardier equips the 17-passenger 6000 with its Vision flight deck, featuring a HUD (head-up display), EVS (enhanced vision system), and SVS (synthetic vision system).
The German Connection
Bombardier says the Global 6000’s ability to provide enough range for nonstop flights between continents is “ideal for political and parliamentary transport requirements.” The company also says the recent Global 6000 delivery “deepens Bombardier’s substantial ties to Germany, where it is the leading provider of business jets.”
