Airbus recently announced that it has delivered the company’s 1,000th Super Puma helicopter. The two-engine multirole H215 model went to the German Federal Police, or Bundespolizei, which will use it to support the German Havarie Command that manages maritime emergencies off Germany’s coast. The Super Puma family also includes the twin-engine turbine H225. Military models of the helicopters include the H215M and H225M.

Super Pumas Worldwide

Using twin Safran Makila 1A turboshaft engines, the H215 and H225 can transport 17 to 19 passengers in civilian configurations and 20 to 22 in military troop configurations. Airbus also offers a 12-seat option for executive and VIP transport. The Super Puma civilian and military models are designed to fill law enforcement, medical, search and rescue, firefighting, aerial work and utility, special ops, troop transport, and other applications.

The 1,000th Super Puma delivery is the last of four H215s that the German Federal Police ordered and received. It took delivery of the other three in December 2018. Overall, the police force’s Super Puma fleet numbers 23 models, making it “one of the largest operators of Super Pumas in the world today,” Airbus states. Airbus also indicates roughly 100 customers in nearly 60 countries operate Super Puma helicopters. Bruno Even, Airbus Helicopters CEO, says the Super Puma lineup has “consistently performed well thanks to its ability to appeal to many different mission segments, whether you’re fighting fires, building power lines, transporting troops, or saving lives in extreme environments.”
