Gulfstream Aerospace’s completions and maintenance facility in Brunswick, Georgia, was the site of the recent 600th delivery of a Gulfstream ultra-long-range G550 business jet. The late-December delivery went to an unnamed customer. Mark Burns, Gulfstream president, says that the G550 is “one of the most dependable business jets available,” and adds that 20% of all Gulfstream aircraft now in service are G550s, which can be also configured for special missions and government applications.

Right Out Of The Gate

Introduced in 2003, the G550 has set more than 55 records and has earned a Robert J. Collier Trophy for its various technological and safety innovations. The jet debuted with PlaneView, an award-winning flight deck featuring Gulfstream’s Enhanced Flight Vision System. Weeks after entering service, the jet set a city-pair speed record flying 7,301 nautical miles (13,521 kilometers) in 14.5 hours from Seoul, South Korea, to Orlando, Florida. More recently, the G550 set a city-pair speed record flying on SAF (sustainable aviation fuel) while flying from Charleston, South Carolina, to Farnborough, England.

Able to sleep up to eight and seat up to 19 passengers, the large cabin G550 can be configured with up to four living areas. The aircraft uses two Rolls-Royce BR710 engines, which help enable a maximum range of 6,750 nautical miles (12,501 kilometers) and a top speed of Mach 0.885.
