What can the aviation industry expect from the all-new 19-passenger G700 business jet that Gulfstream introduced October 21, the night before the 2019 NBAA-BACE event in Las Vegas? Gulfstream says the industry can anticipate its most spacious and best-performing aircraft, and adds that the G700 will combine ultra-long-range abilities, speed, and performance “with flight-deck innovation and cutting-edge cabin creation” to provide an “unprecedented aircraft experience.” Deliveries of the company’s new flagship are expected for 2022.

Customer Inspired

Gulfstream has already announced Qatar Airways will serve as the G700’s launch customer, while Flexjet will serve as its first North American fleet customer. Gulfstream has also already completed roughly 14,000 hours of lab testing, including wrapping up ground vibration testing, engine runs, loads calibration, and all structural testing required for a maiden flight. Five traditional test aircraft and one fully outfitted production test jet comprise the G700’s flight-test fleet, which Gulfstream has already begun manufacturing.

Gulfstream President Mark Burns presented a full-scale G700 cabin mockup at an unveiling event and played a video showing a G700 taxiing at Gulfstream’s headquarters in Savannah, Georgia. “Gulfstream has a long tradition of listening to our customers, and the G700 cabin is the evolution of that collaboration,” Burns said. “Customers shared how much they value flexibility and comfort in the cabin, all without compromising the speed and range advantages they have come to expect from Gulfstream. The G700 delivers all that and more.”

An “Unparalleled” Cabin

Viewed as a direct competitor to Bombardier’s Global 7500, the G700 will use two Rolls-Royce Pearl 700 engines reportedly designed specifically for the jet, which boasts a 7,500-nautical-mile (13,890-kilometer) range at Mach 0.85 or 6,400-nautical-mile (11,853-kilometer) range at Mach 0.90. The jet’s top speed is Mach 0.925.

The G700 will reportedly combine cockpit and flight system technologies from Gulfstream’s G500 and G600, including a Symmetry Flight Deck with active control sidesticks. Its “unparalleled” and nearly 57-foot-long by 6.3-foot-tall (17.37-meter by 1.92-meter) cabin, meanwhile, features an extra-large “ultragalley” equipped with a lounge or crew compartment, as well as up to five living areas and a bespoke master bedroom with master bath. The cabin also integrates Gulfstream’s new circadian lighting system and 20 panoramic windows.
