Dassault Aviation took its ultra-long-range Falcon 8X tri-jet flagship business jet, a model it says is a “leading seller in the Middle East,” to the Dubai Air Show, which ran November 17 to 21 at Dubai World Central. Additionally, the France-based Dassault displayed its tri-jet 900LX corporate jet and a full-scale cabin mockup of its upcoming Falcon 6X ultra-wide-body twinjet, which will make its maiden flight in 2020 and begin deliveries in 2022.

Flying High

The five-day Dubai Air Show was predicted to draw upward of 87,000 attendees from the aerospace sector, and featured 1,300 exhibitors and include about 165 aircraft on display. Air show officials say the 2017 edition of the biennial show resulted in an order book exceeding $113.8 billion. This year, Airbus, Boeing, Cessna, Gulfstream, and Viking Aircraft were among those with aircraft on display.

Dassault delivered its first Falcon 8X to the Middle East three years ago, and it says the eight-passenger jet has been a leading seller there since. The jet can fly nonstop from New York City to Dubai or Chicago to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, with its 6,450-nautical mile (11,945-kilometer) flight range, “yet land at restricted airports that are typically inaccessible to large business jets,” Dassault says. The six-passenger Falcon 900LX, meanwhile, has a 4,750-nautical mile (8,800-kilometer) range, enabling it to cross “any ocean or continent, and sometimes one of each.”

The Middle East Market

As for the Falcon 6X, Dassault says it will provide the largest cabin cross-section—8.5 feet (2.59 meters) wide, 6.5 feet (1.98 meters) high, and 40.4 feet (12.30 meters) long—of any purpose-built business jet. Dassault anticipates the Middle East to be a major market for the 6X.

“The Middle East has always been a key market for Falcon aircraft, whose efficiency, cabin comfort, and value for money are particularly appreciated by local operators,” says Eric Trappier, Dassault Aviation chairman and CEO.
