Bombardier announced this week that its two latest additions to the Global family, the Global 5500 and Global 6500 business jets, have received EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) certification, validating them for operation in the European Union. The aircraft received Transport Canada certification and entry-into-service on September 30.
“Obtaining type certification from the European Aviation Safety Agency marks one of the final chapters in our very successful development program, and this achievement is a direct result of the commitment to excellence of the highly skilled employees who worked on the program and our solid collaboration with our suppliers,” says Michel Ouellette, Senior Vice President of Program Management and Engineering for Bombardier.
Thorough Testing
The aircraft went through the rigorous flight testing program, which was completed at Bombardier’s test center in Wichita, Kansas. The Pearl 15 engine, the latest addition to Rolls-Royce’s business aviation engine portfolio, was developed at the Rolls-Royce Centre of Excellence for Business Aviation engines in Dahlewitz, Germany, and was custom-designed with enhanced aerodynamics, blade cooling, and advanced engine health monitoring systems.
Longer Range
Bombardier says these new aircraft build on the success of the Global 5000 and Global 6000 aircraft by offering 500- and 600-nautical-mile (926- and 1,111-kilometer) range improvements, respectively, coupled with an up to 13% fuel burn advantage, contributing to highly favorable operating costs vs. smaller competing aircraft with less range. The Global 5500 has a 5,700-nautical-mile (10,566-kilometer) range and the 6500 a 6,600-nautical-mile (12,223-kilometer) range. Both aircraft reach a top speed of Mach 0.90.
Comfort Features
The Global 5500 and Global 6500 business jets respectively seat up to 16 and 17 passengers and boast the addition of Bombardier’s Nuage chaise seating to the conference suite. The lounge chair converts into a flat surface for sleeping or banquet-style dinning around the table. Nuage seats are exclusive to the new Global aircraft line.
