Bombardier’s super-midsized Challenger 350 needed just 20.5 hours recently to set 10 new city-pair speed records while flying among 10 of America’s top business aviation destinations. Bombardier says the 10-passenger Challenger 350 departed Las Vegas at 7:56 a.m. local time and then proceeded to fly 5,600 nautical miles (10,371 kilometers) making stops in Denver, Chicago, Teterboro, Washington D.C., White Plains, West Palm Beach, Houston, Dallas, and Los Angles before returning to Las Vegas at 4:20 a.m. The jet averaged a Mach 0.82 cruise speed throughout most of each leg, Bombardier says.

“Unprecedented Record”

Bombardier Aviation President David Coleal says the jet’s ability to connect 10 top U.S. business aviation destinations in such a timeframe demonstrates its “unmatched performance, exceptional reliability, and unrivaled value.” Dennis Simmons, flight operations senior captain, meanwhile, says the aircraft handled the tour beautifully. “While this unprecedented record run is an impressive accomplishment, completing a 10-mission tour of the U.S. in less than a day is well within the capabilities of this outstanding aircraft,” he says.

Bombardier claims the Challenger 350 is the fastest business jet ever to reach 300 deliveries, the most delivered business jet platform of the last decade, and the best-selling business jet of 2018. Bombardier also claims the 2013-launched Challenger 350 offers the largest cabin and lowest operating costs in its class. The jet recently topped the Robb Report’s 31st Annual Best of The Best list of top aircraft in the Super-Midsize category.

Key updates the jet has received recently include enhanced HUD (head-up display) and EVS (enhanced vision system) abilities. Bombardier also introduced a performance improvement package that enables the jet to fly up to 1,500 nautical miles (2,778 kilometers) farther from short runways. That complements steep-approach certifications the European Union Safety Agency, Federal Aviation Administration, and Transport Canada have awarded the jet. Besides the Challenger 350, Bombardier produces the Challenger 650, as well as Global and Learjet business jets.
