Colorado airport service provider Vail Valley Jet Center is in the midst of constructing a new 38,000-square-foot (3,530-square-meter) hangar dubbed Hangar 7, located at the Eagle County Regional Airport. The airport is located near Gypsum, Colorado, and serves the greater Vail, Beaver Creek, and Eagle Valley region that features numerous ski resorts. Overall, Vail Valley Jet Center has plans to construct nine new hangars, which will help accommodate increased international business jet arrivals at the airport.
Bigger Jets Require More Space
The Vail Daily newspaper quotes Allissa Hollis, Vail Valley Jet Center director of customer relations, as saying the airport received nearly 690 international business jet arrivals in 2018. That total is expected to exceed 700 this year. Hollis attributes the need for larger aircraft ramps and hangar space to wider wingspans and winglet extensions, which are present due to fuel efficiency trends.
Hangar 7 will feature a private customer lounge, super-sized vehicle garages, aircraft maintenance bays, and office spaces. There will also be terminal and working space for passengers, flight crews, flight attendants, aircraft mechanics, and aircraft service technicians. Hangar 7, which is reportedly overbooked with base tenants, is the first of three new extra-large community hangars planned for west of the airport’s commercial terminal. Officials have reportedly already broken ground on Hangar 8.
Customized Hangar Space
Vail Valley Jet Center also is also planning to develop a multi-use, custom-built hangar complex designed for large and extra-large aircraft. Services will reportedly include long-term leasing, revenue-sharing, FBO (fixed base operator) services, and on-site international customs services, as well as business offices, private garages, upscale loungers, and storage.
